In 1973, Vico Magistretti designed the Maralunga armchair for the Italian company Cassina. Magistretti was known for his designs that featured simple, essential shapes and the use of innovative materials. He collaborated with several new publishers, always adhering strictly to his guiding principle. His partnership with Cassina began in 1959 with the Carimate chair, which was successful, but it was the Maralunga that truly stood out, becoming an iconic piece of Italian design and winning the Compaso d'oro award in 1979.
